It is not a coincidence that our generation's most influential innovators emerged from Montessori schools.

On April 15, 2023, join Dr. Ed Catmull, Pixar founder, Disney executive, winner of five academy awards, and former MMS parent, for an inspiring conversation about his experience redefining visual and creative arts, storytelling, and leadership.

Hosted in the iconic Letterman Digital Arts Center, home to Industrial Light & Magic, LucasArts, and Lucasfilm's Headquarters and private theater, The Gather for Good: The Creative Mind explores the importance of fostering creativity from our youngest to oldest minds.

Why We Gather

The Play, Learn, Create Initiative

When we were in school, creativity lived in silos. We had an art class. We tried out for the play. Then, when we were older and if the creative flame still had any oxygen, we took the creative writing English elective.

Creativity takes a back seat when school borrows its structure from the assembly line.

Our kids are lucky enough to go to a school that takes its cues not from the industrial revolution but from the science-based wisdom of Dr. Montessori. She understood that children are naturally curious and creative and are most generative when they spend time in a prepared environment that encourages experimentation and thoughtful risk-taking.

The Play, Learn, Create Initiative seeks to raise funds for the express purpose of providing the next wave of spaces and resources MMS children and adolescents need to reach their full potential.

Our Partners

When MMS shifted away from the auction model in 2019, one of our goals was to contribute to actions for a healthier and more sustainable world. Our partnerships with nonprofit community organizations is one of the ways MMS fulfills that mission.

For this year's event, MMS is proud to share our official partnership with the DrawBridge organization. We are thrilled to align with DrawBridge's work in the community showing playful creativity is critical to a child's healthy development.

For over 30 years, DrawBridge has provided free expressive arts programs for children at shelters, affordable housing facilities, and community centers across the San Francisco Bay Area. Always free for the families we serve, DrawBridge programs are offered directly in the communities we serve, removing financial and transportation barriers for participants. Offering child-focused art experiences and quality supplies, children ages five and up are able to connect with their community and explore playful creativity that is critical to healthy development.
